Laura Vandervoort

Laura Dianne Vandervoort was born September 22, 1984 in Toronto, Canada.
A tomboy for years to come she was involved in several sports (Soccer, Karate, Basketball, Tennis, Gymnastics, Baseball…etc.) Entering karate at age 7 she earned a second degree Black Belt by the age of 16.
Laura began acting at the age of 13. She had always been an entertainer, putting on shows for family and friends, however what triggered her interest in the arts was a film called “My Girl.” She received the movie from her aunt at a very young age and after watching realized that acting was what was inside her, and this became her focus.
After taking several classes and doing background work on Canadian shows such as “Road to Avonlea” and “Harriet the Spy” she got her first speaking role in Canadian children’s series “Goosebumps” (3 Episodes) and “Are You Afraid of the Dark?”
After commercials and guest stars (Mutant-X, Prom Queen, Twice in a Lifetime, Doc, Sue Thomas FBI, Troubled Waters, Dresdan Files) and a few Disney movies of the week (“Mom’s Got A Date With A Vampire” & “Alley Cats Strike”) Laura at age 19 landed the lead role of “Sadie Harrison” on the CTV TV series “Instant Star”. Instant Star ran for 4 seasons.
In 2006 Laura shot her first feature titled “The Lookout” with Jeff Daniels, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Mathew Goode and Isla Fisher. It was the directorial debut of screenwriter Scott Frank. Several other TV appearances such as “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” led Laura into the hands of the CW network.
Landing the coveted role of “Supergirl” or “Kara” on the hit CW series “Smallville,” Laura became the main focus of the 7th season.
Following the CW and Smallville, Laura then shot the sequel to the feature film “Into The Blue” titled “Into the Blue 2: The Reef.” This film starred Laura alongside Chris Carmack (The O.C) and Marsha Thomason (Lost). Following “The Reef,” Laura went directly into filming an independent production titled “The Jazzman,” which also starred Canadians stars Michael Ironside and Corey Sevier.
Laura has since moved onto shoot the TV movie titled "Out of Control," where she plays a forensic scientist solving a mysterious murder all while falling in love unknowingly for the killer himself.
Following this film, Laura shot a gritty independent film called "Damage." Starring Walton Goggins (The Shield) and Steve Austin. This film depicts the dirty world of underground illegal fighting. Laura, then turned brunette, played Frankie, a woman once owned and sexually abused by a wealthy mobster. After Frankie tries to commit suicide she is then sold and works the underground fight scene with ex-convict John (Played by Steve Austin.)
Since Damage, Laura shot a sci fi miniseries, a SyFy channel’s relaunching of Philip José Farmer’s Riverworld. The new TV series stars Tohmoh Pinikett (of Battlestar Galactica and Dollhouse) as war journalist Matt Ellman, who dies while on his honeymoon with his wife Jessie (Laura) and wakes up in the titular Riverworld, a mysterious planet where every person who has ever lived on Earth is brought after their death. The premise of the show will have Matt trying to find Jessie, while at the same time uncovering the truth behind Riverworld.
While shooting Riverworld, Laura shot the pilot for ABC's new TV series "V." The show has since been picked up and shooting is now underway (Aug 2009). "V" will air in November on ABC.
Laura plays a 'visitor' from another planet and her intentions as well as her peoples are unknown. "V" stars Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost) and Scott Wolf (Party of Five.)
